Clayton County is part of the south-metro setting for the I-75 corridor. Peach Pass places the northern end of the I-75 South Metro Express Lanes at SR 138 in Clayton County, with the other end at SR 155 in Henry County. This is a named lane facility with its own rules, not a description of every I-75 travel lane.[3]

The county history dates Clayton's formation from parts of Fayette and Henry counties to 1858 and describes Jonesboro's earlier railroad role.
