The Downtown Connector is the shared I-75/I-85 roadway through central Atlanta. AARoads documents its southbound ramps and its interchange with I-20 before the two interstate routes separate. For truck-crash research, the shared route designation is important: a location described only as I-75 or I-85 can be less precise than a travel direction and the nearest exit or cross street.[1]

Identifying the road segment

The southbound guide places the Courtland Street and John Lewis Freedom Parkway connections before the I-20 interchange. It describes the southern split with I-85 branching southwest and I-75 continuing south. These are geographic reference points, not a statement about which lane or ramp was involved in a particular collision.[1]

Inside-Perimeter truck travel

Georgia Code section 40-6-51 restricts vehicles with more than six wheels and specified commercial motor vehicles on portions of I-20, I-75, I-85 and Georgia 400 inside I-285. The statute includes exceptions for pickups or deliveries and travel to or from a terminal, repair facility or residence inside the Perimeter.[2]

A truck on the Connector is therefore not, by that fact alone, proof of a routing violation. The route and the purpose of the trip must be considered against the statutory exceptions. This entry does not determine a driver's compliance or civil liability from a road name.[2]
