Georgia DPS: commercial vehicles and State Patrol records
Current division nameCommercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE)[1]
Former nameMotor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD)[1]
Name change effectiveJuly 1, 2025[1]

Georgia Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, or CVE, is the division formerly called Motor Carrier Compliance Division, or MCCD. DPS announced that the name changed effective July 1, 2025. Older records or references may therefore use MCCD even though the department now uses CVE for its commercial-vehicle enforcement work.[1]

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

DPS describes CVE officers as inspecting commercial vehicles, their operators and loads. Its overview also describes carrier safety analysis and new-entrant safety audits through the investigative unit. These are enforcement and compliance functions within DPS.[2]

The division also enforces metro Atlanta HOV and HOT lanes. That role is relevant to an inquiry about a restricted lane, but it does not establish that CVE investigated every truck crash on a road with toll lanes. Use the incident records to identify the investigating agency.[2][3]

State Patrol and reconstruction

DPS says a GSP crash report can be requested from a local State Patrol post or the Open Records Unit. For photographs or other related records, its instructions ask requesters to specify what they need and supply details such as the incident date, location and report number if known.[3]

The State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team documents evidence in fatal-crash investigations and can assist other agencies on request. Its stated function explains why a reconstruction record may be distinct from the initial crash report. The existence of the team does not mean it worked on every fatal or serious collision.[4]
